Role Play for Self-Development at Work – ROSE

The ROSE project aims to develop an innovative three-part educational package designed to support employees’ self-development, mental well-being, and life management skills. The project focuses on addressing workplace stress, burnout, depression, and the increasingly significant issue of climate anxiety. Its primary target group consists of in-company mentors, trainers, and HR professionals, who play a key role in supporting employees. The secondary target group includes employees themselves, particularly young people, who will benefit from the learning materials developed.
The ROSE project responds to the challenges of today’s workplaces, including declining job satisfaction, high staff turnover, and increasing mental strain. The partnership seeks to provide practical tools that help employees manage life situations, emotional challenges, and workplace-related issues, thereby strengthening their capacity for self-development and improving overall job satisfaction.
The project’s main outcome is a comprehensive educational package consisting of three complementary yet independently usable components:
- Self-Development Handbook for the Workplace: Structured into five chapters, this handbook presents practical methods for stress management, burnout prevention, emotional resilience, and the development of essential life management skills.
- Storytelling Handbook: Also organised into five chapters, this handbook demonstrates how storytelling can be effectively applied in mentoring, communication, and supporting personal development.
- Role-Playing Educational Game: A flexible, decision-based, learner-centred educational game in which the storyline evolves according to the players’ decisions and reactions. The role-playing approach enhances critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration while strengthening intrinsic motivation.
The project is implemented by a consortium of six partner organisations through five work packages. The development process follows a common methodology and standardised templates, supported by both internal and external testing phases to ensure the quality of the content, language, and technical implementation. Upon completion, all project materials will be freely available online in seven languages.
The project’s success is supported by comprehensive quality assurance, project management, and dissemination activities, including communication materials, events, the project website, and social media channels. The diverse expertise of the international partnership ensures that the educational package will be widely applicable across different sectors and organisations of all sizes.
In the long term, the ROSE project will contribute to improving workplace well-being, strengthening employees’ self-development competencies, and enhancing job satisfaction and staff retention. It will provide practical, easily adaptable tools that offer meaningful support for promoting mental health, personal growth, and lifelong resilience in the workplace.
