The Co-MEMO-S project is an innovative Erasmus+ cooperation initiative that aims to develop community-based and sustainable approaches to preserving collective memory, responding to the challenges of the digital age. The project focuses on how communities—including young people, older adults, and local groups—can preserve their stories, cultural heritage, and collective memory in ways that are accessible, transferable, and sustainable for future generations.

The objective of Co-MEMO-S is to create innovative methodologies, digital solutions, and community-based learning processes that empower local communities to document, preserve, and share their own histories. The project redefines the concept of community memory through a modern, digital, and participatory approach.

The project’s main objectives are:

  • Strengthening Community Memory by supporting the preservation of local stories, traditions, identities, and cultural heritage.
  • Developing Digital Tools that enable communities to easily document, archive, and share their memories.
  • Promoting Intergenerational Learning by encouraging collaboration between younger and older generations in collecting and transmitting local stories.
  • Creating Innovative Methodologies, including digital storytelling, community archives, and arts-based approaches to cultural preservation.
  • Increasing Community Engagement by encouraging the active participation of local residents in safeguarding their shared cultural heritage.
The Co-MEMO-S project is implemented through a partnership of organisations from several European countries, including educational institutions, cultural organisations, community development associations, and organisations specialising in digital innovation.

The partnership brings together diverse expertise and good practices to develop a European methodological frameworkfor community-based memory preservation that can be adapted and implemented across different cultural and social contexts.

The project contributes to:

  • preserving and strengthening local identity,
  • fostering community cohesion and social inclusion,
  • enhancing digital skills and digital literacy,
  • democratising cultural heritage by enabling everyone to actively participate in its preservation.

The Co-MEMO-S project represents a European initiative that strengthens community memory through the tools and opportunities of the 21st century. By combining innovative methodologies, digital technologies, and participatory learning processes, it ensures that local stories, traditions, and identities are not only preserved but also brought to life for future generations. In doing so, the project contributes to a vision of Europe where cultural heritage is not merely displayed in museums but remains a living body of knowledge, created, shared, and enriched by communities themselves.
