The UPNOWASTE project promotes sustainability through upcycling—the creative process of transforming discarded materials into products of higher value—and by encouraging community-based learning and participation. The initiative aims to equip both young people and adults with practical knowledge and skills that enable them to turn unwanted objects into useful, attractive, and valuable new products.
Main Objectives:
Promoting the Upcycling Mindset – The project encourages creative reuse to become part of everyday life, helping to reduce waste while fostering a culture of sustainability and responsible consumption.
Strengthening Community Learning – UPNOWASTE introduces the Upcycling Café model, inspired by the Repair Café concept, where people from different generations learn from one another, collaborate on creative projects, and exchange knowledge and experience.
Developing Green Skills – Participants acquire practical competencies such as material awareness, repair techniques, creative design, and the use of digital tools to support sustainable production and innovation.
Increasing Community Engagement – The project encourages local communities to become active contributors to environmental sustainability through collaborative activities and shared learning experiences.
The UPNOWASTE project is implemented through the cooperation of organisations from six European countries, bringing together expertise in education, sustainability, community development, and circular economy practices.
Expected Project Results:
Development of the Upcycling Café Model – A practical and easily transferable community workshop concept that can be replicated in different local contexts.
Educational Materials and Training Modules – Learning resources designed for both adults and young people to develop practical upcycling and sustainability skills.
Digital Tools and Guidelines – Online learning materials, instructional videos, and collections of good practices that support self-directed and community-based learning.
International Knowledge Exchange – Partner meetings, workshops, pilot activities, and the exchange of experiences that strengthen cooperation and promote the wider adoption of upcycling initiatives across Europe.
The UPNOWASTE Erasmus+ project transforms sustainability into a practical, creative, and community-driven experience. Beyond reducing waste, it encourages people to rethink the value of everyday objects, their relationship with the environment, and the importance of collaboration within their communities. Through community learning, intergenerational cooperation, and creative upcycling, the project contributes to building a more environmentally conscious, resource-efficient, and sustainable Europe.
