DEMETRA – Development of a Methodological Training for Company Instructors Providing Work-Based Trainings in the Plastics and Related Industrial Sectors

The DEMETRA project aimed to support company mentors and trainers in modernising Work-Based Learning (WBL)within the plastics industry and related manufacturing sectors. The project focused particularly on making vocational training more engaging and effective for Generation Z, whose learning preferences and workplace expectations differ significantly from those of previous generations.
The project was implemented between 1 November 2017 and 31 August 2020 under Hungarian coordination, led by Trebag Ltd. The international partnership brought together organisations, universities, and industry stakeholders from Slovakia, Greece, Romania, and Hungary.
During the project, comprehensive research was carried out to identify the competence needs of company mentors as well as the learning characteristics and motivational factors of Generation Z. Based on these findings, the partnership developed a Competence Catalogue, a comprehensive Methodological Handbook, and a collection of case studies showcasing good practices in work-based learning within the plastics industry.
One of the project’s key innovations was the integration of gamification and scenario-based learning into workplace training programmes. Mentor training courses and pilot activities were organised in Hungary, Romania, and Slovakia, providing participants with the opportunity to apply and evaluate the newly developed methodologies in real training environments.
