The Educational Package for SMEs to Increase Their Innovation Capabilities and Productivity (EPIC) Erasmus+ project aimed to strengthen the innovation capabilities and productivity of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) while supporting the development of innovation management competences within organisations. The project addressed the challenge that, in a rapidly changing economic environment, businesses must continuously adapt and innovate to remain competitive.

The project was implemented between 1 October 2020 and 30 September 2022 under Hungarian coordination, led by Trebag Ltd., within an international partnership. The consortium brought together organisations from Portugal, the United Kingdom, Slovakia, Cyprus, Greece, Romania, and Hungary.

The project began with comprehensive research into the innovation management competence needs of SMEs. Building on these findings, the partnership developed a range of integrated training and self-assessment tools to support organisational innovation. The project’s outputs included online self-assessment systems, facilitator guides, and a comprehensive innovation training package.

One of the project’s flagship results was the development of the Innovation Wizard card game—an interactive, gamified learning tool designed to foster innovation thinking through practical, hands-on activities. In addition, the partnership produced a comprehensive guide of more than 200 pages, a collection of good practices, and training materials featuring collaborative group exercises.

In the long term, the EPIC project contributes to strengthening the innovation culture of SMEs while supporting the continuous development of employees’ innovation management competences and organisational capacity for sustainable growth.

The project’s innovative results were recognised with the prestigious NIVÓ Award in 2024, highlighting the professional excellence and impact of its developments.

The project continues to contribute to strengthening the innovation culture of SMEs and to enhancing the competences of their employees.
